Ravenscroft Senior British National League Championship Weekend 2 Preview 2018/19 Season
The Championship level of the Senior British National League structure proved to be a massive test for the Ravenscroft sponsored Guernsey table tennis team a few weeks back, however an important point was secured in their encounter with BATTS II.
A main difference between the Championship and the lower Divisions is that there are 10 teams competing in the Division instead of 8 and this results in an extra weekend of fixtures, which will be taking place this weekend.
The team competing this weekend is slightly changed due to the unavailability of the best player in the CI, Garry Dodd. Junior Daniel Collenette competed well from the number 2 spot for the 2nd team earlier this month and he will step-up and play from the number 4 spot, alongside the usual trio of twins Joshua and Lawrence Stacey and Ben Foss.
Saturday’s fixtures are against 6th placed side Wymondham and 3rd placed side Portsmouth. Wymondham have the English number 57 Amirul Hussain heading their team, whilst the Portsmouth side have the vastly experienced defender Adam Proszko in their side and he has won 6 of his 8 matches thus far this season.
Sunday commences with a clash against 7th placed side Ormesby II, who have just a single point more than the Sarnians at present. The youthful side based in Cleveland are mainly ranked outside the top 100 in England and this fixture should be one where the Guernsey side can compete well. The exception is Joshua Weatherby who is ranked 86.
The final fixture is against Nottingham Sycamore, who currently sit at the top of the table alongside Whitworth Academy I. They are a very strong side, led by the second highest ranked player in the Division, James Hobson, who sits at number 20 in the rankings and have strength in depth throughout the team.
