Junior trio prove unstoppable away

The team continued with a similar scoreline in the second match of the day against York Gardens. Joshua was comfortable in defeating YorkGardens' number one Mushood Awosile in straight games, however he needed four games to get past their number two, Erisa Kamara. Robinson had a tough match against their number three player Jouvalle Wilson, losing out narrowly 11-9 in the fifth rubber. Lawrence had an important straight games win over York Gardens' top player and won a hard fought five-setter against Wilson to take two maximum points for the Sarnians.

 The third and final game of the first day ended in a 3-3 draw against a strong Woodfield team.  Joshua was again on fine form and earned two victories over the top two players, While Lawrence was again up to the test and only lost narrowly to their number one player Zac Chambers 3-2. He bounced back from this defeat and beat their number three 3 player 3-0 and Robinson came closest to securing the decisive fourth point, but just fell short, losing in four games to the Woodfield number two Luke Spencer.

It proved to be a superb first weekend for the Deutsche Bank-backed Guernsey Junior British League team of Joshua Stacey (pictured), Lawrence Stacey and Alex Robinson.  By the end of play the Guernsey team sat second in the strong and toughly contested division despite having to play one game fewer than planned due to a power cut. The team began with a 4-2 win over Horsham, both Stacey’s winning both their matches.

 The juniors finished the weekend in style by beating Byng Hall 6-0, the English side unfortunately only fielded two players. Robinson picked up a fine win over the Byng Hall number two player after being two sets down and 10-5 down in the third, before coming back to take the match 3-2, winning 11-5 in the final set.

 Joshua Stacey made it eight wins out of eight for the weekend, while twin brother Lawrence also finished off the weekend well and won six matches out of seven.
