Mixed fortunes for Sarnian teams in second round of season

Missing three established island stars, Ravenscroft One slipped to the bottom of Division One North after the second round of fixtures in the Senior British National League. The first team were without the likes of Garry Dodd, Phil Ogier and Olly Langlois as they headed to Cheshire looking to maintain the sixth position in which they started the weekend.

The first test came against second-placed Northfield TTC, who were missing their star player, Damien Nicholls, and this gave hope to the youthful Sarnian side. However, despite their best efforts, they were narrowly edged 5-3 in a hardfought encounter. Alice Loveridge earned a good five-game win over English No. 75 male Andy Wilson, but she was defeated in her opening match by Daniel Welsh in straight games. Joshua Stacey (Pictured) made a great start to his season by defeating Tim Surrey in straight games and he was desperately unlucky not to gain a point for the side as he agonisingly went down in five games to Welsh, despite fighting back from a 2-0 reverse.
