Veteran's Open Doubles
The top seeded pairings made their way to the final, in the form of Mark Pipet/Phil Hunkin and Martin Sarre/Dawn Morgan (pictured).
Top seeds Pipet and Hunkin looked comfortable throughout the evening and dropped just the single end to the unseeded pairing of Derek Webb and Andre Bichard in the Semis. Webb and Bichard had earlier put an end to the run of the 3rd seeds Keith Opie and Kay Chivers in a 7 game thriller, 12-10 in the deciding end.
Sarre and Morgan matched the feat of dropping just the single leg and this was also in their semi final encounter. Their opposition there was Carl Le Tissier and Sam Kershaw, who had earlier knocked out 4th seeds Jez Powell and Peter Powell also in 7, this time 15-13 in the decider! Despite losing the semi final in 5 games, the unseeded pairing gave an excellent account of themselves and lost 2 tight games 13-11, having held 3 game points at 10-7 in the important 4th end whilst the score was at 2-1 to the top seeds.
Under 21 Open Singles
Top seeded twins Lawrence and Joshua Stacey also made their way to the final.
2nd seed Joshua made the final without dropping an end and this was topped off with an impressive straight game win over 4th seed Liam Robilliard.
Top seeded Lawrence had a much tougher time of it and needed the full 7 games to get through both his Quarter and Semi final clashes. In the Quarters He led 5th seed Joshua Butler by three games to one before being pegged back to 7. Butler won the opening 2 points and looked fired up, however Lawrence remained composed and closed the game 11-6. In the semi finals it looked like a routine victory was on the cards when leading 3rd seed Alex Robinson 3-0. Robinson had defeated the top seed in the Under 18 Singles semi final and it looked like he was going to repeat the feat after winning 3 consecutive games to restore parity. Lawrence held the lead throughout the decider until Alex forced his way into a late lead at 9-8. Stacey then played 2 good points to set-up match point and put away a telling smash to obtain the win 11-9, which was the reverse outcome of their Under 18 clash.
