Division 1
Defending champions Lions A moved one step closer to retaining their crown after coming through a close encounter with their B side, a 3-2 win the outcome. 17 year old Joshua Butler has had a top notch season and he excelled on this occasion with 2 hugely impressive wins. His first win was his best of the season as he inflicted just the 2nd defeat of the season on Phil Ogier. The match was tied at 2-2 before Butler powered through games 5 and 6 for the loss of just 8 points. His 2nd win came against Jez Powell in a match which was won in 5 games. CI number 1 Garry Dodd opened with a 7 game win over Powell before going on against Ogier in the 3rd match of the evening. Ogier was determined to make up for his earlier loss and he became the first player to defeat Dodd in a local league match in almost 2 years when he won the pivotal 7th game of their encounter 11-8. Another unbeaten record was lost on the night as Dodd and Butler lost the doubles in 7 games, the first time that the pair have lost a competitive doubles match.
Whistlers B remain in 2nd spot after they recorded a 5-0 whitewash of Lions D. Joshua and Lawrence Stacey were each on hand to defeat James Rabey and reserve Chloe Le Tissier. Josh dropped 1 end to Rabey and Lawrence needed a 12-10 6th game to see off Rabey's challenge. The doubles was clinched by the twins 15-13 in the 6th.
Whistlers C are in 3rd after they received their 2nd consecutive 5-0 walkover of the season.
Lions C are in 4th spot and they did well to secure a 5-0 whitewash of Whistlers A despite missing Liam Robilliard. Paul Hainsworth navigated a tough 18-16 5th game triumph on his way to a 6 game win over Mark Pipet before seeing off Phil Hunkin in straight games. 2nd Division reserve Martin Sarre stepped up to the plate very well and overturned deficits in both of his singles matches. His first match was against Hunkin and he came back from 3-2 down to win in 7. He went one better in his clash with Pipet as he stormed back from 3-1 to again win in 7. The Lions pair then teamed to win the doubles in straight games.
Division 2
Whistlers E extended their lead to 4 points after they secured a tight 6-4 win over Lions I, despite the best efforts of Sarre, who continued his good form from the previous night. Sarre was clinical during his straight game wins over Kay Chivers and Keith Opie and he battled hard to overcome Ben Foss in 5 games. Thomas Ruff did well to overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat Opie in 5 in the 2nd game of the evening, however he had no further luck in his other singles matches. The doubles fixture proved to be vital on the evening and it was the pairing of Chivers and Opie who overcame a 2-1 deficit to win 12-10 in the decider. Lions reserve Peter Powell was unable to pick up any victories during his singles outings and Chivers and Foss defeated Ruff to make sure of the points.
Both Lions F and Lions E lost a point to the leaders after their big clash ended as a 5-5 draw. The match included some close games and none of the 5 players were able to end the fixture unbeaten. It was the E side who had the most joy as they started the match 3-0 down to due missing a 3rd player. Terry Trustum had 2 big 5 game wins over Luke and Carl Le Tissier, but he was beaten in straight games by Chloe Le Tissier. Tim Le Page defeated Chloe in 4 and saved his best for the final match of the evening. With his side 5-4 down and trailing Luke 2-0, he put in a massive effort to turn the match on it's head and finish it off in 5, securing a point in the process. His only loss during the match came when he lost to Carl, again over the full 5 game distance. Le Page and Trustum combined well to win the doubles over Luke and Chloe in straight games.
Division 3
St Pauls B's lead was cut to 7 points as they did not have a match this week. 2nd placed Whistlers J cut the lead by a point after earning a 5-5 draw with Whistlers I.
Division 4
Lions L held onto their single point lead after drawing 5-5 in the top of the table clash with Whistlers L. Stuart Sarre put in his best efforts for the Whistlers side as he picked up 3 singles wins over Jenny Powell, Val Guilbert and Bolette Hjorth. Tom De La Rue chipped in with an important 5 game win over Powell and also crucially teamed up with the unbeaten Sarre to defeat Guilbert and Powell in a 4 game doubles win. Hjorth and Guilbert won 2 each and Powell picked up a straight game win over Darren Sarre.
The Lions side have the added bonus of having a game in hand.
