Local table tennis players and coaches again benefit from coaching by former world ranked player Branka Bratinic, thanks to new sponsors of the association.
The Croatian-born player with an impressive portfolio held a training camp for ‘elite’ and ‘high potential’ junior players and the senior training squad. This opportunity gave a high-level learning and development opportunity for some local coaches. Bratinic has a wealth of knowledge and is well known in table tennis circles and GTTA President Derek Webb explained why this is important:
“It’s sometimes easy to forget about the integral part that non-playing roles have on the success of our association by focusing on the players, but we have a wealth of talent in our coaches and umpires which needs to be nurtured. We whole heartedly welcome Collenette Jones to our Table Tennis family and we look forward to showing them how their valuable support helps our sport develop, as with all our valued sponsors whom we’d struggle without.”
The Guernsey Table Tennis association will continue to support its growth with the help of new sponsor Collenette Jones. The local accountancy firm have pledged support to the GTTA for the next five years, funding the development of coaches and umpires. Collenette Jones Director, Jon Collenette is delighted to become a sponsor of the GTTA.
“The Association fits our sponsorship profile perfectly with its principles if inclusivity, community and participation across the age groups. We are particularly delighted to have been approached to provide support for the education of young coaches and umpires so that they can have the opportunity of giving back to a sporting community that gives them so much.”
The association is hoping to be able to invite Branka back next May to run a similar camp and also to help with preparation for the Island Games in Gotland. This comes after the association guaranteed a place competing at the home hosted Island Games in 2021.
