Garry Dodd claimed his 7th Whistlers Open title on Monday evening with a straight sets win over Phil Ogier. Dodd was in good form all night and though Ogier played his usual patient game, the Island Champion prevailed 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.
Earlier in the evening Ogier won his quarter final against young Corey Brouard, who himself had picked up a superb win against Dan Collenette in the previous round, before facing 16-year old Ben Foss. Ogier was staring down the barrel at 0-2 but produced a spirited comeback, varying his game and service points to good effect to clinch a 3-2 victory.
Meanwhile Dodd had a more serene passage to the final by defeating Mark Fallaize, Lawrence Stacey and Josh Stacey without dropping an end. The final was over quicker than many expected and although Ogier ensured that every point is hard won, Dodd mixed his shots well, playing some patient rallies but picking his moments to be clinical and seal the win.
