Senior League Report 09-02-2014

Division 1 

Defending champions Lions A further strengthened their advantage at the top to a hefty 12 points following a narrow 3-2 triumph over Lions C. CI number 1 Garry Dodd battled back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Paul Hainsworth in 7 games before also getting the better of Liam Robilliard in the deciding leg of their encounter. Josh Butler went down in straight games to Robilliard before fighting back from 3-1 down to force a 7th with Hainsworth, this time he was unable to complete the comeback win, Hainsworth taking it 11-6. The doubles was the 4th match of the evening to go to the decider and the C side spurned 2 match points at 10-8 before going down 12-10 to the unbeaten doubles pairing and current CI Men's Doubles champions.

Lions B moved up into 3rd spot after a 5-0 whitewash of Ravenscroft Panthers A. Phil Ogier and Jez Powell experienced few problems during their singles wins over division 2 reserves Peter Vivian and Steve Martin, Vivian the only player to salvage an end during his 5 game loss to Powell. The Lions pair teamed to win the doubles in 5 games.

Whistlers A moved into 6th position after a 5-0 whitewash of the side at the bottom of the table, Lions D. Mark Pipet and Phil Hunkin won their singles matches against James Rabey and reserve Luke Bichard to make sure of the win. Bichard competed well during his 5 game loss to Pipet and Rabey also won the opener against Hunkin before going down in 5. The Whistlers duo won the doubles fixture in 5 games.

Division 2

Whistlers E held on to their 3 point lead after recording their 5th whitewash of the season, their F side the recipients of the drubbing. Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Ben Foss all defeated Ian Fitchet, Andy Lihou and reserve Len Bretel. Opie and Foss combined to win the doubles over Fitchet and Bretel in straight games.

Lions F and Lions E kept up the chase after each posted emphatic wins this week.

Lions F defeated Ravenscroft Panthers C 9-1 in a fixture which saw Luke and Carl Le Tissier undefeated. They both defeated Andre De Carteret and Juliette Yeaman. De Carteret prevented the whitewash when he defeated Chloe Le Tissier in straight games.

Lions E were 8-2 winners over their G side in a match which saw Tim Le Page win his 3 singles encounters over Brian Ferbrache, Cleo Rosumek and Luke Bichard. Terry Trustum added 2 with wins over Rosumek and Bichard, but he was beaten in 4 by Ferbrache. Terry Simon was also on hand to add 2 wins over Ferbrache and Bichard, however he was edged in 5 games by Rosumek. Le Page and Trustum won the doubles over Ferbrache and Rosumek in straight games.

Division 3

St Pauls B hold a commanding 8 point lead at the summit and were this week 7-3 victors over Whistlers G. Despite the win, neither of the St Pauls players escaped the evening unbeaten as each tasted defeat in 1 of their 3 singles matches. Derek Carter beat Charlotte Casey and Emma Webb, but lost to Miles Bishop-White. John Wills and Keiran Kotecha both beat Bishop-White and Casey but lost to Webb. Carter and Wills won the doubles over Webb and Casey in 4.
