May 2011 - Paul Hainsworth has retained the Mark Kilby Hard Bat Trophy, which he won for the first time last year, with a gripping three-game triumph over seven-time champion Phil Ogier.

The Mark Kilby hard bat tournament is a fun event aiming to put everyone on a level footing with all players using the same pimple bats to compete. The event also uses the smaller 38mm balls that were used prior to 1 October 2000 and the old scoring system of five serves, up to 21 points. The idea of the tournament was to give other players the chance to win an open event by taking away any advantage gained by any of the numerous rubbers available for use. Mark Kilby was a talented young table tennis player who died in the early 1980s. more>>
