Junior Top 12 Qualification

Ben Foss claimed top spot in the Guernsey qualification stage of the Channel Islands Junior Top 12 tournament on Sunday. The format consists of the 10 top-ranked juniors playing in a round robin to determine who will go through to play Jersey's top six.

Having to play nine matches in one session is not easy either physically or mentally and the players all gave a good account of themselves on the day. Foss only dropped one game over his nine matches and that was to the dangerous Ellis Tomlin, who claimed 3rd position, narrowly losing out to Dan Collenette. Tomlin seemed to have Foss on the ropes at 1-0 and 10-8 up before Foss used his experience to come back to win that game 14-12 and eventually seal a 3-1 win.

The surprise results of the day came slightly lower down the order as Corey Brouard and Ben Sharp kept their focus well to finish 4th and 5th respectively, ahead of Matt Casey. Caden Brouard was unlucky to miss out, finishing 7th despite beating Casey, while James Crocker, Jonah Ingrouille and Alderney's Amy Wesley all gave a good account of themselves. Crocker was on especially good form, using his left-handed attacking style to good effect to defeat Caden Brouard and is definitely one to watch in future editions.
