Mark Pipet and Garry Dodd won the GTTA Open Doubles tournament last night with a thrilling 5-game victory over Josh and Lawrence Stacey in the final. The Whistlers A team mates were pushed the full distance by the Stacey twins, and despite letting a 10-7 lead slip in the deciding end, clinched the title with a 11-6, 4-11, 11-2, 7-11, 12-10 win.
Dodd and Pipet's route to the final included wins over fellow Division 1 players Andy Gill and Jamie Ferbrache, followed by a 4-game victory over Ben Foss and Ryan Bichard in the semi-final. In the other half of the draw, the surprise semi-finalists were Dan Collenette and Billy Ogier, who had topped their group courtesy of wins over seeds Martin Sarre and Paul Hainsworth as well as Keith Opie and Kay Chivers. Their run reached the semi-final where the 2nd-seeded Stacey twins found it tough before coming through 11-6, 10-12, 12-10, 12-10.
