In an entertaining evening of tournament table tennis, the Stacey twins Lawrence and Josh provided one hurdle too far for last years GTTA doubles champion Garry Dodd and his partner, the redoubtable Peter Powell. The octogenarian replaced Dodd’s partner from last year - Powell’s son in law Mark Pipet.
Dodd and Powell had said goodbye to Pipet and Craig Dunning in the quarter finals which they took in three straight sets, before dispatching Jamie Ferbrache and Steve Ozanne 3 sets to 2 in the semis.
The Staceys had knocked out Juliette Yeaman and Paula Le Ber in the quarters in 3 sets straight, and Paul Hainsworth and Dan Collenette in the semis - whom they dispatched 3 sets to 1.
Even so, it was a remarkable effort by Dodd and Powell who took the first game off the twins. Josh and Lawrence Stacey won the final by three games to one - 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8.
