Ben Foss and Ryan Bichard have claimed the GTTA Open Doubles title. On a night when several other leading island players were unavailable there was a smaller entry than normal and although the former junior pairing started as hot favourites for the title, they didn’t have it all their own way. Foss and Bichard had to claw their way out of trouble in the semi-final, eventually overcoming club stalwarts Keith Opie and Kay Chivers 11-8 in a deciding 5th set, having come back from 2 games down. In the other half of the draw, the St Pauls pair of Maurice James and Chas Elliot were nearly knocked out in the group stage, having to dig deep to defeat the plucky Ravenscroft Panthers teammates Peter Vivian and Richard Edwards in a 5-game thriller. Elliot and James then went from strength to strength, defeating juniors Caden Brouard and James Crocker in the quarter final, followed by a surprise against second seeded Mark Pipet and Craig Dunning.
Foss and Bichard showed their class in the final and upped their attacking game to win 3-0
