Teenager Jordan Wykes (pictured) won all six of his matches against Guernsey opponents to win the Channel Islands Junior Top 12 tournament title for the first time.

But there were strong performances from the Guernsey contingent on show, too, as they claimed the second, third and fourth spots.

As for Wykes, the 15-year-old - who is playing in Division I of the British League this season - took the title courtesy of his 3-0 victory against Guernsey's Joshua Stacey. Both players finished the tournament on 21 points at the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre, therefore Wykes' win over Stacey earned him the title on count back.

pleased Maurice James, who witnessed the action. 'Over the course of the day, Jordan was a worthy winner but our players all did themselves proud as well and having second, third and fourth is a good achievement,' he said. 'The standard of play across all of the players was very high and in the junior tournaments at the moment, it is always so competitive and you aren't sure who is going to win them beforehand. 'It was all played in a really good spirit and with some of these players likely to be involved in the Green Trophy in the spring, it shows there is plenty of talent coming through.'

Tournament organiser Tom Quinn was just as impressed. 'It was a great tournament and Jordan did very well to win because he was runner-up in the Jersey section. 'From the outset he would have known that to win he would probably have had to win every game to be crowned champion and he did that well with five 3-0 wins while dropping just one game against Joshua Butler - a player he had beaten on his men's team Green Trophy debut in May. 'There were some very good games, with Guernsey players claiming second, third and fourth positions, while Jersey winner Tyler Gosselin placed fifth after losing three of his six games on the day.'

Gosselin, who won the Jersey Top 12 qualifier on count back from Cl under-15 champion Wykes, lost three on the day to Joshua Stacey, Butler and Robinson to finish with 18 points. Chris Morshead, who also accumulated 18 points, was sixth on count back as he was beaten by Gosselin in the Jersey qualifier. Morshead recorded a good win against third-placed Butler while narrowly losing out 12-10 in a fifth-game decider against Robinson.

Jersey's Luc Miller and Luke Greenfield finished equal on 14 points but Miller (13) took ninth position due to his win

over Greenfield in the Jersey leg. Miller lost out 11-8 in a key fifth game to Ben Foss, who was defeated over five games by Lawrence Stacey. David Quinn, Jersey's youngest competitor at the age of 12, will have gained great

experience from playing in the tournament and in his penultimate game he defeated Alderney's Ryan Welsey 3 -1.
