Garry Dodd was taken the distance but ultimately he did what he usually does this time of year - win the Capelles Open. Last night's triumph at the GTTA Centre was his sixth in total but he was pushed to five in both semis and final. Junior Josh Stacey was having a good night and went 2-1 up in sets against the champion who hit back to take the fourth 11-8 and the decider 11-9. Phil Ogier twice squared the final before Dodd sailed through the fifth set 11-5 to hold onto the trophy. The field contained all the island's leading players, with the exception of Commonwealth women's pairing Alice Loveridge and Dawn Morgan. Ogier put an end to Josh Butler's hopes with a dominant straight-sets win in the semi-finals. One of the best matches was the first-round game between Alex Robinson (pictured) and Lawrence Stacey that saw the latter, who had been two sets to one up, hit back from 1-6 in the decider, to 8-9, before missing out with two forehand loops.
