Under 21 Open Singles

Top seed Alice Loveridge will meet 5th seed Josh Stacey in the final.

Loveridge made the final losing just a single leg along the way. The leg was gained by 8th seed Joshua Butler at the Quarter Final stage. In the semi finals she beat 6th seed Alex Robinson in an encounter that was much closer than the 4-0 scoreline. 2 of the legs were won via deuce 14,12 and 15-13.

Stacey routinely made his way to the semi finals by defeating Sam King and Andy Lihou in straight games. There he came up against 7th seed Matt Stubbington who had earlier secured a surprise 4-2 victory over the in form 3rd seed Liam Robilliard in the Quarters. Stacey was in front throughout the encounter, leading 1-0,2-1 and 3-2 before being pegged back to a final leg decider. There he gained a 10-8 lead, but Stubbington saved a few match points before Stacey finally closed the match out 13-11 to reach the final.

Veteran's Open Doubles

Top seeds Mark Pipet and Phil Hunkin expectedly made their way to the final where they will play against 3rd seeds Kay Chivers and Keith Opie in the final. Pipet and Hunkin dropped a leg to Ian Fitchet and Len Bretel in the Quarter finals and they recorded a matching 5 game victory in the semi finals against 4th seeds Jez and Peter Powell.

Chivers and Opie began with a 4-0 win over Carl Le Tissier and Juliette Yeaman which led to a clash with the surprise package of Derek Webb and Andre Bichard in the semi finals. Webb and Bichard had just produced one of the shock results of the championships as they defeated 2nd seeded defending champions Martin Sarre and Dawn Morgan in 7 games. No fewer than 4 of the 7 legs were won over the full deuce distance and crucially it was Webb and Bichard who won all of these legs, including 14-12 in the decider.

Chivers and Opie dropped the first leg in the semi final encounter, but they then maintained their form that was evident yesterday evening in the Mixed Doubles, winning the following 4 legs to win in 5.

The Island Championship Finals night will be held at the centre this Saturday from 7:00pm.
