2014-03-18 Junior 6 Nations Report

Josh Butler (Pictured) can look back atthe Guernsey-hosted 39th Junior

and Cadet Six Nations Championships

with pride.

In spearheading the Guernsey

junior boys (under-18s) to fourth

place in the team competition, he

chalked up a number of impressive

victories, not least the 3-2

win over Welshman Ryan Orler

who, on the final day of the

three-day event at the GTTA Centre

at Hougue du Pommier, won

the individual boys' title.

Against the best youngsters in

the United Kingdom, the

Guernsey contingent enjoyed few

wins but Butler and James Rabey

got the junior boys off to a great

start with a 3-2 win over Scotland.

Butler won both his singles

and the doubles, and after 5-0

thrashings by England and Ireland,

Butler chalked up two more

solo wins and Rabey one, as they

beat Isle of Man 3-2.

Then in their last match, a 4-1

defeat by Wales, Butler defeated

Orler 11-7 in the fifth.

England won all four team trophies

at stake but the singles trophies

were spread around with

Orler and England's Maria

Tsapsinos winning the junior titles

and Scotland's Chris Wheeler

and Ireland's Katie McGlone

the cadet championships.

Ben Foss was the only Sarnian

to reach the knockout stage of

the singles.
