Division 1
Cenkos Panthers A are potentially just 1 match away from
securing the 1st division title for the 1st time after recording a 7-3 victory
over Whistlers B. Olly Langlois and Matt Stubbington each recorded victories
over Dawn Morgan, Martin Sarre and Jez Powell. They also teamed up to defeat
Sarre and Powell in a straight game doubles victory. Each of the Whistlers
players secured wins over Panthers 2nd division reserve Andy Langlois to reduce
the margin of defeat. Whistlers A moved to within 4 points of their B side
following a comfortable 8-2 victory over Specsavers. Mark Pipet and Phil Hunkin
both won their 3 singles encounters against Mark Fallaize, Neil Hastie and
Jeremy Tan. They were also on hand to defeat Hastie and Tan in a straight game
doubles triumph. Martyn Gaudion added the other Whistlers victory, coming back
from 2 games down to defeat Tan in a tight 5th game. Fallaize and Hastie both
defeated Gaudion to spare the blushes.
Division 2
Whistlers C defeated their nearest rivals Whistlers D in a hard
fought 7-3 victory. Kay Chivers was unbeaten on the evening, defeating Derek
Webb, Lawrence Stacey and Harry Lewis. Josh Stacey added victories over Webb
and Lewis and Opie chipped in with a solitary victory over Webb. Chivers teamed
up with Opie to defeat Lawrence Stacey and Webb in a 4 game doubles victory.
For the defeated side, Lawrence Stacey won 2 matches, beating both Opie and
twin Josh and 3rd division reserve Lewis scored a massive 4 game upset of Opie.
Division 3
League leaders Lions H remain unbeaten at the top of the 3rd
division, but succumbed to their 5th draw in as many weeks against Whistlers G.
Lionel Jones was the star performer for the Lions side, defeating Sophie Dyer
and 4th division reserve Sam King. He also teamed up with reserve Jay Saha to
edge the Whistlers' pairing of Dyer and Miles Bishop-White in 5 games. Saha and
Graham Mallett each defeated Dyer to secure the draw. Bishop-White was
undefeated for the Whistlers side and King put in an excellent reserve display
in beating Mallett and Saha. St Pauls B took advantage of the slip-up and moved
to within 2 points of the leaders following an emphatic 9-1 victory over Lions
J. John Wills and Brian Le Cras each defeated Rose Powell, Mike Vance and T
Snell. Derek Carter added wins over Vance and Snell, however he was defeated by
Rose Powell, who produced an excellent 4 game victory to prevent the whitewash.
In the doubles encounter, Wills teamed up with Carter to defeat Powell and
Vance in 4 games.
Division 4
The clash between leaders Whistlers M and Lions L ended in a
5-5 stalemate. Sam Lesley was the exceptional performer in the contest, winning
all 3 of his singles matches for the Lions outfit. In the process, he defeated
Dave Herquin, James Rabey and Junior league reserve Robbie Garner. His
team-mates Bert Enevoldsen and Derek Cave each chipped in with victories over
Garner. Herquin and Rabey both defeated Enevoldsen and Cave and it was Rabey
and Garner who edged an epic 5 game doubles victory over Cave and Lesley.
