Division 1
Lions A closed the gap on the league
leaders; Cenkos Panthers A, to 4 points following an emphatic 9-1 victory over
Specsavers. Phil Ogier and Paul Hainsworth both won their 3 singles encounters
over Mark Fallaize, Neil Hastie and Jeremy Tan. Liam Robilliard added victories
over Tan and Fallaize, however he was defeated in 5 tight games by Hastie.
Robilliard teamed up with Ogier to defeat Fallaize and Tan in a straight games
doubles victory. Whistlers B proved their dominance over their A team this
season, recording their 3rd straight victory over them, however this one was a
tightly contested 6-4 win. A resurgent Mark Pipet could not do enough himself
to earn anything out of the match for the defeated Whistlers side, but he did
everything in his power to do so. He recorded victories over Jez Powell, Martin
Sarre and Dawn Morgan and also teamed up with Phil Hunkin to claim an epic
14-12 5th game doubles triumph over Morgan and Sarre. Unfortunately for Pipet
he was not backed up by his team-mates in the remaining singles encounters, as
Sarre, Powell and Morgan each defeated Hunkin and Martyn Gaudion to secure the
points. The result was extremely tough on the 'A' side, as 4 matches were won
in 5 games by the victorious side, proving that the result could have gone
either way.
Division 2
Whistlers C made it 14 wins out of 14
with a tight 6-4 victory over Lions B. Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Joshua
Stacey each won 2 out of their 3 singles encounters to secure the win. Chivers
and Opie defeated Paula Le Ber and Peter Powell and Stacey defeated Le Ber and
Tim Le Page. Tim Le Page was on hand though to finally put an end to Kay
Chivers 100% record, defeating her in an impressive 4 game victory. He also
defeated Opie and teamed up with Powell to defeat the formidable doubles
pairing of Chivers and Opie in a 5 games doubles win. Powell picked up Lions'
other victory by defeating Stacey in 4 games.
Division 3
Lions H moved back to the top of the 3rd
division in emphatic fashion, whitewashing Whistlers I in the process. Lionel
Jones, Graham Mallett and reserve Jay Saha all played some excellent table
tennis in their victories over Martin Stacey, Vicky Stacey and Shane Cotter.
Jones and Saha were on hand to put the nail in the coffin with a hard fought 5
games doubles victory over Martin Stacey and daughter Vicky. St Paul's B
slipped into 2nd position following a surprise 6-4 defeat at the hands of
mid-table side Whistlers L. Harry Lewis, Steve Davies and Alex Bott all managed
to defeat Brian Le Cras and reserve Robbie Garner to claim the scalp. As in the
1st division encounter, 1 player was not able to earn anything for the team,
despite his best possible efforts. Derek Carter was on good form for the
defeated side, as he defeated all 3 Whistlers players in his singles
encounters. He also teamed up with Le Cras to defeat Lewis and Davies in a
straight games doubles victory, but it was not enough to salvage anything.
Division 4
Whistlers M remain at the top of the 4th
division following a decisive 9-1 victory over bottom of the table side Lions
N. Dave Herquin and Ben Rolph were largely untroubled in their singles
victories over Rachel Vivian, Naomi Priest and Chris Holland. James Rabey added
victories over Vivian and Priest, however he was edged 13-11 in the 5th game by
Holland in the final match of the evening, which spared the blushes for the
Lions side. Rabey and Rolph teamed up to defeat the Lions pairing of Vivian and
Priest in a comfortable straight games doubles victory.
