Division 1
Cenkos Panthers A emphasised their
position at the top of the 1st division with a 10-0 whitewash of Whistlers A.
The Whistlers side were always going to be up against it when facing off
against the impressive league leaders and they were not helped by the absence
of Phil Hunkin, gifting the Panthers side a 3-0 lead before play had even
commenced. Olly Langlois, Adam Langlois and Matt Stubbington each posted
victories over Mark Pipet and Martyn Gaudion, for the collective loss of just 4
single games. Stubbington and Adam Langlois teamed up to put the nail in the
coffin, dispatching Pipet and Gaudion in a straight game doubles encounter.
Lions A cemented their status as being
2nd in the division by posting an impressive 8-2 victory over 3rd placed side
Whistlers B. Phil Ogier was the star performer for the victorious side,
defeating Jez Powell, Martin Sarre and Dawn Morgan. This was not an easy feat
though, as he was required to come back from a 2 game deficit to eventually
emerge victorious over Sarre in 5 games. Paul Hainsworth and Liam Robilliard
each added 2 victories to ensure the Lions' side of the victory and 2 points.
Hainsworth defeated both Morgan and Sarre, however he was defeated in 4 tight
games by Powell. Robilliard defeated both Powell and Sarre, but was beaten in
straight games by Morgan. Robilliard teamed up with Ogier to polish off the
victory, defeating Sarre and Powell in a close 4 game doubles encounter.
Division 2
Whistlers C are looking extremely healthy
at the top of the 2nd division and this was helped by a 10-0 whitewash of Lions
D in a re-arranged match on Tuesday evening. Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Josh
Stacey each won their 3 singles matches over Joshua Butler, Kate Stubbington
and last minute reserve Laura Harm. Chivers and Opie rounded the match off with
a 4 game doubles victory over Butler and Stubbington.
Division 3
St Pauls B are the new league leaders
after recording a 10-0 whitewash of 2 man Whistlers G. Connor Gaudion, Derek
Carter and Brian Le Cras each defeated Sophie Dyer and Ross Benfield and Carter
and Le Cras also teamed up to defeat the Whistlers pair in a straight game
doubles victory. Whistlers G were without Miles Bishop-White, which could turn
out to be pivotal come the end of the season, as they currently lead Lions H on
games difference by just 2 games. Lions H remain as the only unbeaten team in
the 3rd division, but crucially dropped points for the second successive week
after a 5-5 stalemate with Whistlers K. Alex Robinson was absolutely pivotal
for the Whistlers side in getting a point as he defeated Lionel Jones, Graham
Mallett and reserve Jay Saha. Elizabeth Priest added a crucial 5 set victory
over Saha and Sam Edwards also beat Saha in straight games to obtain the draw.
For the Lions side, Mallett and Jones each won 2 of their 3 singles encounters
over Priest and Edwards and also teamed up to defeat Robinson and Priest in a 4
game doubles triumph. The H side are clearly rueing the absence of their star
player, unbeaten Neil Rabey and this has severely dented their title hopes. It
now looks like a closely contested race to see who emerges as the league
winners.
Division 4
League leaders Whistlers M remain at the
top of the 4th Division, but were defeated for the second time this season
after succumbing to a tight 6-4 defeat at the hands of their O side. Sam King
was excellent for the victorious side, recording victories over Dave Herquin,
Ben Rolph and reserve Tim Doughty. He was aided by both Sam Totty and Jordan Le
Tissier who each defeated Doughty. Totty and King teamed up to clinch the
clinical doubles rubber against Rolph and Doughty, recording a straight game
victory.
