With the Green Trophy players of the past couple of years debarred from playing, Alex Robinson took his chance and won the second major tournament of the GTTA calendar, the Jack Carrington Trophy last night.
Robinson beat Paul Hainsworth (pictured) 11-9, 11-6, 11-9 in the final, having previously defeated two more fellow youngsters in Ben Foss and Lawrence Stacey in the quarters and semis respectively. Stacey managed to take a set off the winner.
Hainsworth had a slightly more testing path to the final, having been taken to four by both Martin Sarre in the quarters and Liam Robilliard in the semis, a match he won 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-4.
The other players to reach the last eight were lan Fitchet, who went out to Stacey and Jez Powell, beaten by Robilliard.
