It was a tough weekend for the Guernsey table tennis Junior Deutsche Bank teams at the Junior British League qualifiers in Grantham. ![]() The Guernsey boys team of Joshua Butler (pictured), Sam King, James Rabey missed out on a place in the league by the nearest of margins with only 7 team places available in the main league. The boys team qualified for the main draw having finishing second in there groups winning 3 and drawing 2. Unfortunately despite their efforts they could only finish in 8th place having lost to London Academy for the final spot (2 – 1). An existing team within the league is unable to field a team so the boys may be called upon. For the girl’s team of Megan Gale, Chloe Le Tissier and Naomi Priest it was a very strong competition with 10 girls teams playing for only 3 places in the main league. Unfortunately the story for the girls was the same outcome as the boys, they finished in 5 place having lost to a strong Ashford team (3 – 0) in the main draw of the qualification after finishing with 2 wins and 2 loses in their group. All players picked up some very good wins against highly ranked players in England. Butler and Le Tissier only lost 2 of their matches. |
